Nobody Is Selling Their Coins: Gold and Silver Coins Good Investments For The Long Term

The below is an article from PCGS, the top coin grading service company. It is talking about how coin dealers are having a hard time finding coins and some shops and auctions are shutting down or being cancelled due to the lack of coin sellers and consignments. This is just another reminder of the demand for physical gold and gold coins being one of the best ways to invest in gold. For a reminder of how how and why to buy physical gold refer to our articles from before:

One question comes to mind that I want to ask the Federal Reserve: Since demand is this high for gold and supply is so tight and diminishing in every possible way, how do you explain that gold sometimes goes down suspiciously and still is not at several thousand dollars?

Of course that is a rhetorical question and gold will make up for the lost time as the scam breaks down. Plus there will be interest to pay on the price appreciation that was suppressed. It always does.

Obstacles in the Coin Market
By Jaime Hernandez, eCollector Editor

The coin market stayed strong throughout the month of January. The U.S. Mint sold over three million 2010 Silver Eagles as of January 22, by far the best January for Silver Eagle sales since the program first started in 1986.

However, just like all other markets having their share of problems, the coin market also has a few of its own. Right now, one of the biggest obstacles in the coin market is dealers being able to replace inventory or finding nice coins to buy.

Currently, there are many dealers out there with plenty of money to spend. They just can't find coins to spend their money on! Remember, last year one well-known coin auction house shut down its coin auctions due to a lack of coin consignments. It's getting tougher and tougher for dealers to find coins for their inventories and consignments. It's not that coins aren't selling or realizing strong prices at auctions; instead collectors need and want more coins than they want to sell or cosign.

In the meantime, we hope you've been able to find the coins you've been looking for and the month of January has been as good in numismatics for you as it has been for us at PCGS.
